this week we are continuing to look at the work of vivian maier. i chose one of her many self portraits. every artist should indeed have one. they offer insight into the mind and personality. many artist like vivian are often mysterious and allusive. unfortunately, her self portraits only further her mystification but, did perhaps reveal how she felt about herself; a shadowy figure moving through the world, never really seen or understood. maybe she was self conscious of her looks and that is why she chose not to reveal her true self. maybe the fact that a shadow makes you appear taller and dominant it could have been her way of showing she was strong and independent on her chosen means of transportation. the large crack in the pavement on which she placed her reflection does not go unnoticed by me and could hold a deeper meaning to how she was feeling. we will never know what was going on in her head but once again vivian delights with her thoughtful, poignant and clever photos.

ok, here is my try at self portraits! oh dear. well, its a start anyway.

* liking the picture of the week? what would you want your self portrait to say about you? have a favorite photographer or photograph? tell me! click the camera on the blog home page and we will have coffee n' talk ;)

thank you and God bless
